Setting and curing are different stages
Concrete does not reach its intended properties the moment the surface looks firm. It gains strength over time, and curing is the process of maintaining conditions that support that development.
Exact guidance depends on the concrete mix, slab design, weather and the intended traffic. Follow the contractor's written instructions for the actual placement rather than a general rule of thumb.
Keep vehicle traffic off until cleared
A driveway can appear ready before it should carry a vehicle. Ask when pedestrian access is expected to be suitable and when cars or heavier loads can return. Do not move a vehicle onto the slab just because the surface is no longer wet.
If access is time-critical, raise that before scheduling. A contractor can explain realistic arrangements for the specified concrete and site conditions, but should not promise a universal curing time without knowing them.
Weather and aftercare
Heat, wind, rain and temperature can affect placement and curing management. The crew may need to adjust the work plan when conditions change.
Aftercare instructions should identify any curing compound or other measures, when to remove barriers, and what to do if the surface is exposed to unexpected weather. Keep those instructions with the project records.
